Better even than this yoga (relative) beginner wished for! August 20, 2010 B. Mason (Glen Cove, Long Island) I encountered this early in my ravi/ana career when I was visiting a friend and she asked me if I wanted to do a yoga DVD one morning. I'd been struggling with various types of yoga so I was thrilled to find a beginner yoga dvd workout that I actually felt pretty adept at right away! Not that it is not challenging at times - it is! But at least I never felt like I might hurt myself trying to do some posture my body was obviously never gonna do! This starts with seated warm-ups for the spine and legs and then moves on to the upper spine/body. That's just set 1. The second set is where you begin to challenge yourself. It's just 5 exercises that flow from 1 position to another (so it's really like 10 exercises). The sense of strength and burst of energy I got from the very first time was unbelievable and I didn't even finish every round! I finished feeling more confident about yoga and now I've bought a copy of my own and I can't wait to do Kundalini(with this and the other raviana DVD's I own) 4-5 times a week!
Maybe not for beginners August 18, 2010 Anne L Harrigan Yoga is something I have always wanted to get into and I finally decided to pick up a dvd to give it a try. I did my research and liked what I saw with this DVD. As someone who has never done yoga before, I don't feel like this ended up being the right purchase for me. The biggest issue I had was that I didn't feel like there was enough direction about proper positioning. It made me very nervous I was going to injure myself. I thought the breathing exercise were good, however for a DVD that has "Beginners" in the title, I felt very uncomfortable with it. I believe this DVD is something that I need to come back to when I find something else that teaches me the basics a little better. The style of this DVD was also something that I would maybe appreciate a little more with a stronger Yoga background. The music and the woman and the voice overs were all a little too surreal and distracting for me...again, I am saying this as someone who strives to, but doesn't yet understand the deeper meaning/purpose of yoga. I just don't think this is for beginners.
The one thing I did really appreciate was the matrix option which I am seeing more and more on different workout DVDS. It's nice to be able to mix and match sections of workouts to fit your time and needs for any given day.
Great introduction! August 15, 2010 Book Addict (Morgan Hill, CA) This was my first experience with Kundalini Yoga. Once I started, I was hooked. I come back to this one often. :)
Kundalini Yoga with Ana and Ravi! July 13, 2010 Happyogabunny (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Kundalini Yoga for Beginners and Beyond with Ana and Ravi.
My yoga journey started with Hatha Yoga which I very much enjoyed for approx 1 year prior to discovering Kundalini Yoga. Once I began doing Kundalini Yoga it soon became my main yoga practice as I resonate with it completely. There is more movement such as flexing and twisting with Kundalini and the breath is incorporated and eyes closed. I find that I go deep into the practice and it has certainly benefitted my life greatly. For example I am calm and mindful yet also energised and committed to whatever I may choose to do...much more willpower!
I won't do a great detailed review of this class structure as others have already done such a good job in their reviews. I will tell you that this is one of my very favourite DVD classes to work with. The production is high quality, the class flows very well from Tune in, then a lovely warm up section that prepares body and mind for what follows next and loosens up the spine ready for the work ahead. The five tibetans is beautifully demonstated by Ana and instruction is clear and conscise. You are encouraged throughout and the music helps to keep you going too. Of course I always work within my own limits on any given day, each day can be different so I just accept what I can do and it is fine. The relaxation is lovely and meditation blissful and then Tune out.
A wonderful class, with many benefits! Thank you Ana and Ravi x
Extremely Useful DVD July 9, 2010 K. WRUCK 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This DVD is the powerhouse of my collection! The 2nd set (5 Tibetans) is one of the best quick all over yogic body toners I have found that works on building bone density and endurance. So, if I have been doing mostly yoga practices that focus more on the stretching aspects of yoga (say Hatha) then I perform this set. The 1st set is a classic Kundalini Yoga warm-up set and one I have done live but I like Ana & Ravis version which is very well paced. It has all my favorite spinal moves, you bend and twist and flex your spine from the tailbone up until you are buzzing with energy. The point is, partly to open your solar plexus, where most of us tend to hold on tight, this is the key to finding real flexibility and I feel ready for anything afterwards! Very useful as a warm-up set, or a set unto itself in the morning to get a great start on your day, or to let go of the day afterwards!
